The Grove, Zatara Press
While exploring the Wyoming landscape featured in his Carbon County project, John Sanderson discovers an isolated hilltop of ancient trees and rocks, documented in this sidequel book, The Grove. Sanderson seeks solace in these forms of nature by searching the land for an understanding of what this place means in context to his own personal being. The images are presented in a stark B+W photography style, in contrast with the formal color photography of Carbon County. Moved by this life-changing experience, Sanderson has channeled a 25-quatrain companion poem, to try to come to terms with these feelings and expand beyond photography’s limitations as a medium.
